There is a snobbery that is present in the weaving world that pits looms types and weaving styles against each other. I don’t buy into that AT ALL. A loom is a tool and how you use it is your choice. Period. That is why I believe all weaving is good weaving and the loom that does what you want it to do is the best loom for you.

Of all the styles/methods of hand weaving, I personally enjoy weaving on the Rigid Heddle loom the most. Rigid Heddle looms are affordable, portable and quiet. I get my greatest joy demonstrating the styles and techniques and then assisting someone as they learn to weave, especially watching their eyes light up.

I’ve been very busy last weekend. In an earlier post I told you I bought an Ashford Rigid Heddle 80 cm loom at Wolboerderij Blij Bezuiden and beautiful Swedish yard at Bjorkkulla. I’ve set up the warp (in white) and wove my first fabric (in ice blue/grey) by the yard. It’s very fun and relaxing making your own fabric.

However, a local yarn shop was looking for a rigid-heddle weaving teacher, and a guild member pressured me to give them a call.
